When deciding on a commercial cooling system for your business, evaporative cooling is a great option. Read on to find out a bit more about evaporative cooling and how it works.

What is an evaporative cooling system?

Evaporative cooling is a type of industrial cooling known for its energy-efficiency. Evaporative cooling uses the natural cooling of water evaporation to keep interior spaces a comfortable temperature.

An evaporative cooling system also constantly removes hot air from your building and replaces it with cool, fresh air from outside. This stops your workplace from getting hot and stuffy, even during the summer.

How does evaporative cooling work?

1. Warm air is drawn in

Evaporative cooling systems constantly draw fresh air in from outside. However, this air needs to be cooled before it passes around your building.

2. Water evaporation

A water pump continuously moistens the cooling pads in an evaporative cooling system. As the warm air drawn from outside passes over these pads, the water in the pads evaporates.

Evaporation is the natural cooling process – as the water evaporates, it absorbs the heat from the air, cooling it.

3. Circulation

Now the air is cool, it can be circulated around your building – using ducting and fans – to lower the internal temperature and improve the air quality.

What are the benefits of evaporative cooling?

As well as keeping you and your staff cool in the warmer months, evaporative cooling systems offer many other benefits.

  • Environmentally friendly: Unlike other traditional cooling systems, evaporative cooling doesn’t use refrigerants, which can be harmful to the environment.
  • Energy efficient: Evaporative cooling uses around 90% less energy than other cooling systems, leading to a significant saving on your energy bill.
  • Easier maintenance: These systems have less moving parts, meaning maintenance is easier and cheaper.
  • Improved air quality: Evaporative cooling is known to reduce the spread of viruses, as it constantly circulates fresh air from outside rather than recycling the same, stale air.
