Businesses rely on their industrial heating system during the cold months, and ensuring that system is well-maintained, efficient, and safety compliant is vital.
At Heritage Heating and Cooling, we pride ourselves on being industrial heating experts. Read on to find out why it pays to choose industrial heating specialists to upgrade, replace, or maintain your system.
What is a Gas Safe qualified engineer?
Whilst general heating contractors are knowledgeable about different types of heating system (gas, oil, electric), Gas Safe Engineers are the only ones legally qualified to work on gas appliances. This includes industrial heating systems and boilers.
These engineers are registered with the Gas Safe Register, the official body that verifies engineers are trained to safely work with gas appliances. Engineers only become Gas Safe registered after completing their training and passing assessments. They must also regularly renew their qualifications, to keep up to speed with the latest safety regulations.
All Gas Safe engineers carry a Gas Safe ID card, and can also be verified on the Gas Safety Register website.
What is an Industrial Gas Safe qualified engineer?
Working on industrial gas appliances requires Gas Safe engineers to obtain additional qualifications, which have to be re-sat every 5 years.
Engineers who are qualified to work on industrial gas appliances are in short supply. At Heritage, we are lucky enough to have 5 fully qualified Industrial Gas Safe engineers, and another engineer who is qualified to work on the pipework.
These qualifications include:
- COCN1 (Core Commercial Gas Safety): The foundation, non-domestic equivalent of the domestic CCN1.
- CODNCO1 (Changeover Domestic to Commercial): Required to bridge from domestic to commercial/industrial work.
- ICPN1 (Installation Commissioning and Purging): Required for working on commercial/industrial pipework.
- CIGA1: Industrial/Commercial Indirect Fired Appliances (e.g. large boilers).
- TPCP1 / TPCP1A: Tightness Testing and Direct Purging of commercial/industrial pipework (TPCP1 is for larger systems over 1m³).
What is a heating engineer?
Heating engineer is a broader term for heating professionals. A heating engineer might specialise in a particular type of heating, but only Gas Safe Engineers are legally qualified to work on gas appliances.
At Heritage, all our heating engineers are Gas Safe certified – so, whichever type of industrial heating you have, you know it’s being handled by a qualified expert.
Why to choose industrial heating specialists
1. Improve energy efficiency
Heating large commercial buildings – such as warehouses and factories – can be unnecessarily expensive when done inefficiently. Skilled industrial heating specialists, like us, know how to ensure heating systems run efficiently.
Our engineers can assess your current heating system and identify how its efficiency could be improved. We can then recommend and install heating upgrades or system replacements that enhance the energy efficiency of your heating – saving money on your heating bill, without compromising on performance.
This is what we did for automotive stockists BPX, who needed an efficient heating system installed in their large warehouse. Our Gas Safe certified engineers installed highly efficient Powrmatic gas suspended ceiling heaters, perfect space-saving units for a warehouse where floorspace is limited. We also installed Powrmatic destratification fans, a fantastic energy-saving complement to ceiling-mounted heating.
2. Safety regulation compliance
All industrial heating systems need to meet the proper safety regulations to ensure they are running safely. Qualified industrial heating specialists install and maintain your system to comply with all the latest health and safety requirements.
This is especially important when dealing with gas heating systems, which can only legally be installed and serviced by Gas Safe qualified engineers.
3. Minimise maintenance costs
Running a faulty heating system can disrupt your business’s day-to-day operations. Regular maintenance from qualified heating professionals helps ensure your heating is running at optimum levels, and identify any repairs that need to be made before they spiral into expensive, complicated issues.
You should always aim to have your heating serviced in time for the winter months when it will be relied upon – often, summer is the perfect time to book in a service for your industrial heating system.
4. Tailored heating solutions
Whilst general heating contractors can handle standard heating maintenance and installation, qualified heating specialists are able to offer tailored industrial heating solutions. This is especially useful if you want to replace your heating system.
At Heritage, we offer a free site survey. A fully qualified heating engineer will visit your business and quote for the system best suited to your needs – all at no cost to you. Book a free site survey to get the ball rolling on your tailored heating system upgrade, without spending a penny.
