Whether a small one-car garage or a larger more commercial garage, chances are the conditions inside are often cold and only fractionally better than outside. In that case, what’s the point of having a garage at all? It doesn’t have to be this way!
Protecting the various tools, parts and vehicles that you may store in your garage is the purpose of its existence and for this conditions need to be kept warm and dry. Failing to do so could cause rusting of equipment and even mould to grow as a result of damp conditions.
Heating Space
Of course, there are issues with heating a space that can be empty for long periods of time. This is especially true in a garage or larger warehouse-like structure that more likely than not has little insulation to keep heat in. Prior to purchasing a heater it may be wise to invest in insulation, as when you do have a heater you will not simply lose the warmth it provides out of non-insulated crevices.
A taller building, in a more warehouse-like garage, faces the issue of heat simply rising to the ceiling and the floor remaining as cold as ever. One way to combat this heat loss is with fan assisted heaters that keep air flowing in larger spaces and make it less likely for air to simply escape upwards. Alternatively, a ceiling fan would also direct the hot air from another model of garage heater downwards.
Common Problems
Damp is an issue caused by the cold conditions of many garages, which can permanently damage any tools, equipment or products that are kept there. A problem with purchasing heating for a garage to get rid of damp may be that condensation caused by the heater can simply escalate the problem. One solution to this may be airing out the space before applying heat, colder for a short period, but in the long-term deals with the issue. Another solution to this again would be a fan garage heater; the advantage of fan assistance being that it keeps air moving in the space and helps to reduce condensation.
