If your business operates from a large building with high ceilings – e.g. factories and warehouses – it can be difficult to heat efficiently. A great way to solve this is issue is with destratification fans.

Destratification fans

What are they?

Destratification fans are installed into large commercial buildings to improve the efficiency of their heating system. These fans are usually suspended from the ceiling.

How do they work?

In large, high ceilinged buildings, heated air tends to rise and get trapped in the ceiling. This also displaces the unheated, cool air from the ceiling, pushing it towards the ground and undermining the effectiveness and efficiency of the heating system.

Destratification fans, suspended from the ceiling, help to circulate the rising hot air back down to the lower levels where it is needed.

Benefits of destratification fans

1. Cost effective

Heating up a large building can quickly get expensive if the heat simply rises to the ceiling and is lost. It means you need to run your heating longer or higher to create a comfortable interior temperature – which will show on your energy bill.

Destratification fans recover this lost heat, meaning:

  • You don’t have to run your heating at unnecessarily high levels to compensate for it.
  • You can purchase a commercial heating system of an appropriate size and power for your premises.

2. Energy efficient

As well as saving you money on your energy bill, destratification fans are highly energy efficient too.

The Powrmatic CECx units we stock and install at Heritage have automatic thermostat controls. They can operate as part of a smart HVAC system to keep your building at optimum temperatures whilst reducing energy costs.

3. Improved building conditions

Inconsistent heating inside a building can be detrimental to the interior condition of your building. Destratification fans help to combat this by:

  • Reducing or eliminating condensation inside your building.
  • Helping to prevent mould and mildew.
  • Reducing issues like fogged windows and glass, or damp, humid patches on doors and walls.

4. Increased comfort

With destratification fans recovering hot air from the ceiling, the interior temperature of your building becomes more consistently warm and comfortable in cold weather. If your building operates across multiple floors (e.g. mezzanine levels) you’ll also notice comfortable temperatures here too – not just on the ground level.

The increased efficiency destratification fans give your heating system also means your building will heat up more quickly.

Professional installation is key

To get the most out of your destratification fans, it’s vital to get them installed by professional heating and cooling experts like us. This is because:

  • We take into account floorspace, the dimensions of your building, and the heating system you have installed.
  • We know how to position the fans so that air circulates in the most optimum way.
  • Improperly installed fans can be noisy. We know how to install destratification fans to prevent noise issues.
