As we head towards the cold weather months, industrial heating is going to become more important than ever. When the temperature outside begins to drop, it’s little wonder that working in an industrial setting such as a warehouse can become less comfortable, too.
Efficiently heating a warehouse, or any large commercial building, presents a number of challenges. Industrial warehouses are generally large, open spaces, and difficult to heat evenly. Luckily, here at Heritage Heating and Cooling, we offer a range of heating solutions suitable for any industrial setting. With highly effective options such as radiant heating, you, your workforce, and your site visitors can remain warm and toasty all winter long.
As with any other heating system, there are some myths surrounding industrial heating. As leading industrial heating specialists, we’re here to debunk these myths and show you why it’s a good idea to invest in a robust heating system for your business.
Myth: Turning industrial heating on and off saves energy
If you keep turning your heating system on and off during the day, you are at risk of damaging the components that make up your heating system. This is especially risky if the weather is cold enough to freeze any pipes installed in your building. Constantly fluctuating heating and cooling can cause issues with these pipes, and lead to the heating system not working at all.
You may think you will be wasting energy and increasing your energy bills by heating your building during the warmest parts of the day. Although temperatures are generally at their lowest during the evening, no one will benefit from the heating being on exclusively during the evening (unless of course there are staff working a night shift).
Commercial radiant heating systems are perfect for maintaining a steady temperature throughout the day. These systems use electric radiant heat to heat the people and equipment inside your building (rather than the air), making them into secondary sources of radiant heat. This enables you to maintain a steady, comfortable temperature inside your industrial building.
Myth: Buildings with high ceilings are impossible to heat
Another common industrial heating myth is that if a building has a high ceiling (as many industrial buildings do) any heat will simply rise up to the roof where no one will feel the benefit – so there’s little point in heating the building at all.
Although heat will rise to the roof of a high-ceilinged building, there are heating solution options to counteract this, such as getting destratification fans. These fans blast the rising heat back down into the room, making your heating system efficient and keeping your building warm, no matter how high the ceiling is.
Myth: Running heating systems on low settings saves money
It might seem sensible to keep your heating running on a low setting to get a room warm without using too much energy. But in reality, you are more at risk of wasting money than saving it by doing this. This is because it will require more energy to heat an entire building on a lower setting than it will to pump a higher heat around the room.
If you are looking for an economically friendly way to heat your business, heating systems that use timers or thermostats are ideal. These systems heat your building evenly at certain points throughout the day, or stop heating your building when the desired temperature is reached.
Radiant heating is also good for heating a building economically through spot heating. If you have specific areas that are frequently used, radiant heating panels can be mounted above to spot heat the area below.
