At Heritage Heating, we know a thing or two about heating and cooling systems and we are always interested in finding out how people have innovatively used heating and cooling systems throughout the world.
One innovative use that has caught our eye recently is contained within Stockholm Arlanda Airport. Have you ever wondered what weather to expect when you are travelling to a new destination? Now you don’t have to! The ‘Climate Portal’ located in the airport allows travellers to physically experience the conditions that they can expect when they reach their destination.
The Portal
The portal is made up of three rooms, simply named “hot” “cold” and “big”. Each room uses heaters, air conditioners, fans, and audio-visual aids to transport the traveller to their destination before they have even set off.
Using the latest sound and image technology, travellers are able to experience the heat, chill, wind or hustle and bustle of their intended destination. By connecting to the internet to access online weather services, the experiences are as true to life as possible; from the temperature to the wind speed of the destination.
A Preview of Your Destination
This simulation of the weather from your holiday destination allows you to have a preview of what you can expect once you land, allowing travellers to prepare adequately for the various different climates that they will be experiencing.
It’s a good indication of whether you need to pack some more sunscreen or throw in an extra jumper to make the very most out of your holidays
Go Hot, Go Cold, Go Big!
You can probably tell that we are extremely excited to hear about this new project as it is such a unique way of using heating and cooling systems to benefit travellers.
The integration of the live weather data is an excellent demonstration of how versatile and adaptable a heating and cooling system can be. With variable temperature controls, this system installed at Stockholm Arlanda Airport just goes to show just how much you can change the atmosphere simply through room temperature.
From the biting, chilly winds of the arctic to the more balmy weather of the Bahamas, a huge range of climates can be experienced accurately with the help of sophisticated heaters, air conditioning, misters and fans. You can even experience the hustle and bustle of a crowded city in the “big” room of the portal.
The Marketing Director of Stockholm Arlanda Airport, Michael Persson Gripkow has said “We wanted to explore the possibilities of not just moving you to your destination, but our destinations to you”. It is one of the most accurate ways of deciding if you would be able to deal with the weather conditions on various different countries without paying out for a holiday and then not enjoying it because you haven’t adequately prepared for the weather conditions.
The Climate Portal is open until the 31st of August this year, so if you find yourself in the Stockholm Arlanda Airport, be sure to go and experience one of the most interactive heating and cooling systems on the world!
We can’t wait to see what this innovative technology means for heating and air conditioning systems all over the globe. If weather can be mimicked using online reports which are connected to a heating and cooling system, does this mean the future of heating and cooling control will become a lot more customisable?
