Warehouses are a work environment which cannot afford for the conditions to be anything other than just right, otherwise your employees will be uncomfortable, and incorrect temperatures can affect products which are being stored. For example, in the colder months, the warehouse needs to be warm enough so as not to freeze, and in the hotter months, the warehouse needs to be at the ambient temperature to prevent it from becoming uncomfortably hot.
There are numerous temperature related problems that can impact your warehouse, but here at Heritage Heating and Cooling we are able to offer you some advice on how to solve them.
Problem: Cold Air Around the Windows
This is due to a gradual case of deterioration around the window. After the wear and tear of the warehouse environment, the seal around the windows can wear down and create small gaps which can bring in air. This, after time, causes the warehouse to decrease in temperature, meaning that more energy is required to warm the warehouse.
Solution: Regularly Check the Temperature of the Warehouse
The easiest way to check if you have an air leak in your warehouse is to check the temperature of the warehouse a couple of times a year. If you start to notice unusual temperatures around your windows, then it’s likely that you have an air leak. To fix this, correctly insulate your windows or replace the seals if necessary.
Problem: Heat Gathering Near the Ceiling
This is due to the simple fact that hot air rises. Due to a process known as convection, hot air is less dense than cold air, so it gathers at the top of any building. However, if there’s no way to circulate the air around the warehouse, the warehouse floor will remain cold.
Solution: Invest in Some Destratification Fans
These fans increase the air flow within the warehouse, meaning that the air temperature within the warehouse is consistent. This results in the entire warehouse being one constant temperature rather than being cold on the floor and hot at the ceiling. This also means that your employees will stay warmer and you will also use less energy, as you won’t need to turn the heat up as much.
Destratification fans re-use the wasted heat which is rising to the apex of your building by pushing it back down into the working area reducing the amount of heat required and in turn reducing fuel consumption.
Problem: Maintaining Control of Your Heating
One of the most important things that you want within your warehouse is to ensure that you have optimum control of how much heat is being pumped into your warehouse; you want to make sure that you can pump enough warm air to make you and your employees comfortable but you also don’t want to pump too much air and make the warehouse incredibly uncomfortable.
Solution: Make Sure You Can Easily Control Your Industrial Heat Pumps
This is crucial for the wellbeing of your staff as well as managing the efficiency of your warehouse. If your heat pumps do not have any controls, it means that they will heat the air within the warehouse continually, which can be bad in terms of energy consumption as well as for the comfort of your employees.
If you can control the pumps effectively, then it means you can keep a tight check on what temperatures would be optimum for a given working condition. For example, one day could be warmer than usual in the cold months, so you need to make sure that the pump isn’t working at maximum capacity.
These are some of the problems that can occur with regards to the overall heating within a warehouse environment; and while it pays to ensure that you purchase only the best heating system for your workspace, it is also important to ensure that the rest of your warehouse is in fully working order to ensure its complete efficiency.
Here at Heritage Heating and Cooling, we are able to provide efficient and high quality industrial heating systems, as well as destratification fans, to ensure that you and your employees are working in a comfortable environment.
