Heater Safety Tips

There are few times of year where our warm air heating systems are more important. With Jack Frost nipping at your extremities and the ever creeping chill of winter making its way through every perceivable gap in your premises, it’s no wonder! While we like to think these heaters are something of a Christmas miracle, it is important to remember to use and treat them correctly in order to not only keep you safe, but to get the best out of them.

Always Safety Test

Each of our Heritage Heating systems are safety tested prior to installation. The heat that a heater can kick out is the reason that we love them, but due to the nature of the heat they can reach it’s important to make sure that they are in fully working order. Using an untested heating system is not worth the risk; the consequences can be anything from a minor occurrence to a fire, so always make sure you have a safety tested system.

Install an Alarm

While the team at Heritage Heating have every confidence in the heating systems that we provide, it is imperative to make sure that you have the appropriate alarms installed. Not least because they’re recommended for installation in every household anyway, it can pay to install carbon monoxide, fire and smoke alarms in order to provide that extra security blanket in case your heating system isn’t working correctly.

Use it to Heat Space

Obvious, right? Well, apparently not! There are tales of heaters being used to heat much more than space; take thawing food for example. You can see the potential problems of doing this, from water leaking into your heater to overheating and combusting! It really isn’t worth the risk.

Location! Location! Location!

Our team will always ensure that the location for installation is safe and fit for purpose, but if you are using a portable heater make sure that you are cautious about the location you leave it. From burning passersby to burning or setting fire to your carpet or surrounding fabrics, you must always ensure that you are using your heater sensibly.

Heater safety is for life, not just for Christmas! Always make sure that you are using your heater responsibly, as the consequences of it being maltreat can be dire. It’s easy to keep your heater in good condition… a little bit of TLC and commonsense never did anyone any harm! If, however, you find that you are in need of heater advice, help or even an installation, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
