Radiant ceiling heating is a cost-effective form of commercial heating, especially suited to buildings with large interior spaces and high ceilings. Whether your business operates from a warehouse, factory, or other large building, a ceiling mounted radiant heating system could be the perfect heating solution.

We’ve put together this guide to tell you everything you need to know about radiant ceiling heating systems.

What is radiant ceiling heating?

Radiant heating is a heating system in which electric panels radiate heat from a flat surface. This surface is usually a ceiling, but the panels can also be mounted on walls or floors. Quick to heat up and quiet once they are running, radiant heating is a versatile and unobstructive heating solution.

How does radiant ceiling heating work?

Radiant ceiling heating panels work by emitting infrared waves that heat the objects and people within spaces, rather than warming the air (which is what traditional heating systems do). Each panel is made of a conductive material that is heated using electricity. When heated, this panel emits infrared radiation. This heat is then absorbed by the people and objects inside the building, maintaining comfortable and stable temperatures.

Is radiant ceiling heat efficient?

Electric radiant heating systems are very efficient. By heating the objects and people in a room directly, rather than heating the air and relying on convection currents to move this heat around, radiant heating panels use far less energy to achieve optimum temperatures. This means radiant heat is also far less expensive to run than many traditional heating systems, as it costs far less on your electricity bill.

You can also make use of spot heating by mounting radiant heating panels over the areas of your commercial building that are used most frequently. These areas will then be kept warm, whilst energy is not wasted heating other, less used areas.

How long do radiant heating systems last?

Radiant heating panels are incredibly durable and built to last. Unlike many traditional heating systems, they don’t have any moving parts that can wear down or need replacing over their lifetime. Regular, minimal maintenance of a radiant heating system should keep it running smoothly for many years to come.

Is radiant ceiling heating safe?

Radiant heating is very safe. As it doesn’t rely on moving air around to distribute heat, there is no chance of allergens, dust and pollutants circling around your building. This improves the air quality of your space, and can be hugely beneficial to anyone with allergies or respiratory issues.
