With summer just around the corner, warmer days are already making a presence. Keeping the heat away is a priority during the summer months, and there are some easy tips you can follow to keep yourself cool. After all, you want to enjoy the British summer for as long (or as little) as it sticks around!
Stay Out of the Sun
When outside, stay out of direct sunlight and take advantage of the shade. If you run every day, adjust your schedule to the longer days and run early in the morning and at the end of the day, when the sun isn’t high up in the sky. During the day, if you’re not at work, watch a film or go to a shopping centre to escape the scorching sun. Sunscreen is also advisable to keep you from burning.
Wear Light Clothes
Light coloured clothing helps reflect the sun and reduce the heating feeling. Darker colours absorb heat very easily and will overheat you quickly. Loose fitting clothing made of cotton or linen is the best option for summer; even if you sweat, the fabrics are breathable and will prevent you from overheating.
Drink Plenty of Water
You lose more water through sweat during summer, so you need to have water easily accessible to replenish it during the day. You need to drink plenty of water to not suffer from dehydration. If you’re going to be travelling during the day, you can leave bottles of water in the freezer; they will melt during the day and when you need to drink it, it will be at the ideal temperature.
Eat Fresh Food
Warm food is good during winter to raise your body’s temperature from within. In the summer, however, you want to have the opposite happen. Eating fresh salads and fruit will help cool you down and stay fresh. It helps that you won’t have to cook next to a hot stove!
