Myths are something that arise in almost every subject, and some can be easily believed.
With that in mind, it isn’t uncommon for myths to be perceived as the truth, and this is the same when it comes to heating and air conditioning equipment.
Working within the heating and air conditioning industry, we at Heritage Heating & Cooling thought we would debunk these common myths about HVAC (heating, ventilating and air conditioning) equipment.
After all, if you’re investing in new equipment for your company, you want to ensure that you’re keeping it in tip-top shape and making the most of your heating or air conditioning.
Have you heard any of these myths below?
The Filter Only Needs Changing Once a Year
Regularly changing your filter keeps your equipment working properly and at its best. Avoiding this can lead to a dirty filter which can clog up your system and reduce airflow.
It is recommended to change your filter every 2 months to achieve maximum efficiency, which in turn improves the air you’re breathing in.
Closing Vents Increases Efficiency
Although a room may not get used as much as others, it is still important to allow ventilation throughout. When you close vents, air pressure in the ducts increases which can potentially cause leaks and cracks within the vent seams.
By making sure all vents are uncovered, this can be avoided.
Turning Off Air Conditioning Wastes Energy
This is a very common myth as many believe turning the air conditioning off then back on uses more energy than turning it down.
However, the more often your HVAC unit is switched off, your bill will be reduced, and the life span of your system will increase.
The Bigger the System, The Better the System
When it comes to HVAC systems, bigger doesn’t always mean better. If the system is too large, it will cycle on and off, meaning it is costing you more money whilst also shortening the life span of the unit.
However, if the system is too small, it will struggle to heat or cool your home or business space.
Consulting with professionals, such as ourselves, can help you find and install the perfect system for your needs.
Routine Maintenance Isn’t Needed
It is thought and misconceived that HVAC systems only need to be checked when a problem arises. However, HVAC units and systems are complex pieces of machinery which should be checked routinely.
Filters can easily be checked by yourselves, however getting a professional to conduct some maintenance can save and prevent major problems occurring, allowing your system to continually run smoothly.
At Heritage Heating & Cooling, our Gas Safe registered professionals are trained to carry out maintenance on a number of popular brands.
