If your commercial HVAC system needs replacing, it will give you some tell-tale signs that it’s no longer working properly. Read on to find out what these signs are and the benefits you’ll get once you replace or repair your HVAC unit.

1.    Increased efficiency

When you notice your commercial HVAC system taking increasingly longer to maintain the temperatures you require, the unit is losing its efficiency. This is to be expected as the system gets older, but a large decrease in efficiency will be reflected in a big increase in your energy bills.

Eventually, you’ll be taking a hit to your electricity bills that could be saved by purchasing a more modern, efficient HVAC system. The age of your unit is especially important in your decision in whether to repair or replace it. Generally, any unit exceeding ten years of use should be replaced.

2.    Quiet performance

Loud noises coming from within your HVAC unit are a sure sign that not all is as it should be. Noise within the unit could mean something is trapped in the fans, or a more serious issue with the cooling fluid.

Here are the warning noises to look out for:

  • The blower is humming louder.
  • The outdoor unit is making more noise.
  • The furnace is groaning and banging.
  • There is noise before the air conditioner starts up.

If your HVAC system is fairly new, it could simply be a manufacturing error that should be repaired. If you are working with an older system, replacing is the safer and more economical option.

3.    Reduced need for repairs

Spending more on repairing your commercial HVAC system than it would cost to buy a new one is not a fun situation to be in. When you find your HVAC needs more and more repairs to keep running smoothly, it’s definitely time to consider a replacement.

It’s widely recommended that if you are paying more than 50% of a unit’s original price in repairs, then you should be looking towards buying a new one instead. This is especially true if the unit has already been in use for half of its intended service life. Purchasing a new, more modern HVAC unit will decrease your energy bill and the cost of repairs.

4.    Easier and cheaper to maintain

If an HVAC system has not been properly maintained, there is a strong likelihood that it will develop a host of underlying issues. Repairing these issues could cost you a lot more than replacing the unit. Unnoticed efficiency issues could also be costing you a lot on your energy bill.

If you’re ready to replace your HVAC system, it’s important to scheduling in regular maintenance to ensure your next unit works at optimum efficiency levels for as long as possible.
