Autumn is here, and things are about to start shifting all around us. From changing colours to falling leaves, autumn brings all sorts with it – including longer nights and colder temperatures. As such, it’s important to make sure that your workplace is fully prepared to handle this change in conditions. If you operate from a warehouse, there are all sorts of heating and maintenance options to consider; including radiant heating.
Read on for Heritage Heating’s top tips on how to prepare your warehouse for the autumn months.
1. Consider your warehouse heating options
When it comes to warehouse heating, there are several heating options available to you – it’s all about finding which one suits your space best.
A radiant heating system is a fantastic options for warehouses for a number of reasons. Electric radiant heating uses infrared radiation to directly heat the objects and people in its path. This is why radiant heating is the preferred commercial heating system for large industrial spaces, like warehouses.
If you use some areas of your warehouse more frequently than others, you can also make use of spot heating. Radiant heating panels can be mounted above frequently used areas, ensuring they are always kept at a comfortable temperature. This is far more efficient than attempting to heat the entire large space.
2. Know the size of your space
As we get deeper into autumn and, eventually, winter, temperatures are only going to get colder. If you found your warehouse really wasn’t getting as warm as you needed it too last time the cold weather hit, your commercial heating system might not be powerful enough for the size of your warehouse.
Alternatively, if you often find your warehouse comes too hot and stuffy once you turn the heating on, your might have an overly large and powerful heating system.
One of the most important things to consider when prepping your warehouse for autumn is to analyse whether the heating system you have in place suits the size of your warehouse. If it doesn’t, it’s best to change things sooner rather than later.

3. Reduce energy bills and increase heating efficiency
If your warehouse has a high roof, it’s important to consider how you’re going to keep heating flowing around the entire building. In a building with a high roof, warm air rises and often becomes trapped at the top – increasing energy bills and decreasing the efficiency of the heating system.
To rectify this, destratification fans are a highly effective solution. These fans are installed into the roof of your warehouse, and circulate the warm air trapped in the roof back down to the occupied space on the floor.
As the fans work to push warm air back down into the working area, your heating system responds by reducing power – reducing fuel consumption by as much as 15%, whilst keeping your warehouse a consistent, warm temperature.
