Coldest Countries in the World (Part One)

Planet Earth is home to some pretty extreme weather, and many countries see freezing cold temperatures each and every day.

Antarctica is certainly the coldest country in the world, with temperatures sinking as low as -67.3 degrees Celsius. It is easily one of the most treacherous environments in the world, with extreme winds and incredibly cold winds. Not only this, but it is also one of the driest countries in the world in terms of rainfall. Brrrrrrrr!

The average temperature in Greenland is -22 degrees; the highest temperature it will reach in a year is only around -13 degrees, which is still pretty cold by our standards. Sunlight is prevented from entering the atmosphere due to the land being covered by a large ice sheet, and its lowest recorded temperature was a chilly -66 degrees.

Russia suffers from a generally low temperature all year round due to its very windy climate. During the winter months, the outside temperature can range from between -8 to -27 degrees. However, the summer is hardly warm, with the average temperature being a meagre 3 degrees. Russia is also home to the coldest village in the world, Oymyakon, where temperatures can reach as low as -71.2 degrees.

Although temperatures vary across the country and throughout the year, generally the temperature in Canada is very cold. In the Prairie provinces, temperatures can be as low as -26 degrees during the day and -39 degrees at night. The windy climate in Canada can also make the outside temperature feel even colder, and in the city of Snag, Yukon, temperatures can drop as low as -63 degrees.
